I’m as skeptical about the U.S. as the next person. Maybe more. I don’t think the U.S. is preeminent on all matters, but it has the capacity to get better. “American Exceptionalism” is not only annoying, it’s dangerous. It’s a worldwide embarrassment we don’t have public healthcare, and people die because of it. I roll my eyes at much of the ticky-tackiness of July 4th celebrations, and feel empathy for people with pets and for folks with PTSD who get stressed out by fireworks and coping with days of sudden explosions.
But, I made this anyway. It’s among the reasons why I sneer at people who regard royal families as something to revere and swoon over. Fuck that noise.
